Limestone is a soft, porous stone that reveals its character through subtle variations in color and texture—but this same openness that creates its beauty also demands careful stewardship.

Unlike harder, denser stone, limestone doesn't achieve the brilliant polish of marble. It is more delicate, more vulnerable to the accumulation of soil deep within its pores. Over time, these deposits dull the surface, and scratches and wear patterns tell the story of a floor's use. Leveling these variations, removing the embedded dirt, and restoring the stone's natural finish requires both finesse and purpose.

The restoration process begins with careful grinding and honing—using progressively finer techniques to even the surface and remove scratches without compromising the stone itself. Deep cleaning then draws soil from the pores of the limestone, followed by buffing to dry and clarify the surface. Depending on the desired finish, additional polishing may deepen the luster and enhance the natural color variations that make each limestone floor unique.

Once restored, limestone requires protection. A penetrating sealer bonds to the stone's molecular structure, guarding against stains while allowing the stone to breathe. Some choose to enhance the natural variations in color, deepening the visual richness of the floor itself.
